Painting by Rosaleen O’Connell circa 1931
Eileen O’Connell is a figurative artist based in New York City.
Eileen’s artistic curiosity was piqued at a young age by the paintings of her Irish grandmother that hung in her childhood home in Massachusetts. She studied at Syracuse University where she earned a BFA and received a Student Scholarship Award from the Society of Illustrators. Eileen went on to apply her artistic skills as a Creative Director in product development while continuing her fine art exploration through workshops at various locations including The Art Student’s League of New York.
Today, Eileen juggles her corporate career with her passion for drawing and oil painting. She is compelled by the challenge of capturing the likeness and essence of a person, or moment in time, through careful observation of shape and color. Eileen often shares her love of the painting process with the viewer by allowing a drawing line or toned surface to show through in her work.
You can catch Eileen painting at The Metropolitan Museum of Art as part of the Fall 2023 Copyist Program.
